Re: Retrieving overwritten text

Wow... what a stroke of luck to get it all back.

Now, __please__ don't rely on luck from now on!

Mervyn,

Sorry, but I cannot quote your last message because I
downloaded it with a different machine and it is now erased
from the server.

You are certainly right about the fact that someone, months
ago asked for some specific software intended to completely
rubb off a HD. Now, we all know that this technology works
always in the same manner (whatever can be done can be un-
done), so maybe the requested software or some other product
of the same firm would sort out the problem of recovering my
lost/destroyed data. In fact, most of the companies mentioned
here, which I labourously tested yerterday, were able to locate
and partially recover **some** pieces of ancient files in my
HD's, but actually not the total amount of any lost information.
Nearly all of them, BTW, asked for a check to finish their job or
suggested that user should contact one of their engineers, who
would most probably ask for even more money to accomplish
what, in the end would most surely result in a mess of
scrambled signs. If there is such a magic recovery software it
is, most surely in the hands of the Military and Security Forces.

Anyway, as I said yesterday (but haven't read in the Hamline
list service yet [???] ) I'm happy to confirm that I found my lost
draft at the University. I promise I will never again start a draft
using a standard or untitled filename and I also promise to
backup as paranoiacally as I can.

Best,

Enrique
