Enrique,
Something struck me as I went on my way....
Some months ago on the List, someone raised exactly the opposite problem to
yours and perhaps the same software might be helpful You'd have to look in
the archive.
He was disposing of a PC, as I recall, and wanted to ensure that the highly
confidential material on it would be totally destroyed and so irrecoverable
by the new user. The problem was similar to yours, in that merely deleting
files does not remove them.
Perhaps a lead from this...?

Thanks to David, Jon, Bob, Herb and Mervyn for
their suggestions.
I've tried some of the demos (On Track, Data Pol),
haven't tested Norton yet, and found something
deep inside the HD which fairly resembles in size
the lost document; but demos allow you only to
peep inside the HD but do not recover anything.
You have to pay for that and, Oh Gods, it's terribly
expensive! Wish I could have a friend in Secret
Services, yes, Mervyn.
In any case, backup is a smart advice but backup
intelligently is even more clever than that. One
thing a NB user **must not** do is work on an
"untitled" document. Always give the document
you are working on a specific, unique, filename.
Thanks again.
Best,
Enrique
