"Open File" window too small

When you go to open a file using "Open | File" I find the box is far too small, particularly the left-hand side that shows the directory/folder structure. Now in Windows XP, the "My Documents" folder is actually located at C:\Documents and Settings\Bob{my name}\My Documents\ and then starts all my sub-directories. This is simply far too long and cumbersome to find and move through all the time.

 

Suggestions for making the window bigger?
