Re: Umlauts in Orbis - SWS 6.1

Joachim,

Have you checked how you have chosen to deal with umlauts? There are two
boxes in the Orbis textbase creation/editing menu that affect this. I've
chosen to check the first box ("include all accents/modifiers") and get
results such that "Künst*" would return "Künstler" but not "Kunstwerk,"
while "Kunst*" would give the latter but not the former. (I recall that
checking both boxes would change the results such that the accented
letter in search string would find only indentical accented letters in
the textbase, while the base latter would retrieve both accented and
unaccented counterparts. And you could yet try checking just the latter
box.)

I believe the keyboard problem is to some extent an independent one that
may or may not affect this. I'm sure that all the accented characters
that are part of my Finnish keyboard (and are thus reliably entered as
one-byte versions) behave as described above. The umlauted characters in
the German.kbd created by NBWin seem to be one-byte versions, too; so I
don't think there should be any problems with them either.
