I use a free program called "Renamed It" for such matters. It is available
at: http://www.kobonet.com/
The program should allow you to change all the extensions at once.

Second attempt as first attempt returned claiming 'data form error'
whatever that means...., although I received a copy in my inbox, the list
did not receive it....I have asked Wojciech about this problem.

Subject: NB6.0 file extensions
Once upon a time I invented my own extension for the files I made in NB
fancying that I knew what I was doing. The extension was .nts. Now of
couse, I want to change all those files to nb. Is there some way to change
a bunch at a time? I probably have 60 or more files like this. If I have
to 'save as' each file, do I simply delete the nts extension and save
letting NB put in the nb or do I have to replace the nts with the nb and
then save it? Save as will create duplicates of everything and then later I
can delete all the nts files. Is this the only way to manage this?
Thanks for help
Maureen
