My apologies. You're quite right, it does work. Live and learn. All my life
I've been using "." to represent the current dir, and ".." to represent the
parent, in fully-qualified dirspecs. It seems to me that most languages and
utilities (ZIP and UNZIP, for example) require it, and maybe that's why the
habit is so deeply ingrained; but now I'm going to test that assumption too.
"." and ".." always work, everywhere, so it's not a bad habit to have.
