Hi Oun,
At 04:46 PM 1/8/2003 -0600, you wrote:
Thanks for info.
Sounds very good.
Does it work also as a substitute of my e-mail? Like having multiple
e-mail address so that mails can be received into the specified categories
(like NB list e-mail, PC-mag new e-mail, etc.).
To handle mountains of e-mail coming in, I wish I have my e-mail program
(here Groupwise) intelligent enough to deliver them into a different box
(cabinet) as they are received. It is too much of manual work to drag
each (or a group) of e-mails into the cabinet every time.
Safeworlds is not what you need for the task you described above. I use
an email client called Eudora that does that. It has easy-to-use filters
that allow me to direct all mail for the Notabene list into a separate
folder. It is also free software. http://www.eudora.com/ There are
probably other email clients that will do what you want also.
Safeworlds is not email software. It is for talking live with people in a
group. For instance, if 2 or 3 or 50 people from the Notabene list logged
on to the NB Writers Safeworld at the same time, they could have a
conversation live---like a telephone conference call, only the messages are
typed.
The long-time users on this list could use it to conduct seminars
periodically to teach the rest of us how to best use Notabene. There are
many possibilities.
You also have the option of communicating live privately with just one
individual if you want.
By switching back and forth between group and/or individuals, you can even
carry on several live conversations at a time!
Being able to carry on a live conversation is a real advantage when you
need to work through a problem fast. And even if one has to pay by the
minute for internet time, this will be much cheaper than an international
phone call.
If you log on at a time when no one else is logged on, you can still leave
your message, and it will be seen by the others when they log on---or by an
individual privately if you send it privately to him or her.
People who do not have an account, however, cannot send you a message. So
spammers cannot send you unwanted messages.
The Safeworlds software is very small (takes up very little hard drive
space), and is very easy to install (and to uninstall if you don't like
it). And it is totally free, so the best way to learn about it is to try
it out. All you have to lose is a few minutes of time.
If you have anymore questions, please feel free to ask.
Louis
Would it be a solution to have multiple e-mail address of mine which is
provided by a web site or through my own web site at monthly cost?
I would appreciate your kind advice.
Oun.

Hi again everyone,
A question I should have answered before it was asked is "What does
Safeworlds software do?"
It is similar to Yahoo Messenger, but much better. There are no ads. Also
no one can get into our chat space (our NB Writers Safeworld) unless I (or
whoever is running the server) lets them in. This totally eliminates spam.
It is called Safeworlds, because you could easily set up a world for your
children to communicate with their friends, and no sex pervert can log in
to prey on them, as only the people you want will be able to log in.
The reason you haven't heard of it is because it is only a few months
old. I program with a language called REBOL. A programmer on the REBOL
email list created Safeworlds, and those of us that program with REBOL are
using it to speed up our helping each other solve programming problems. It
is really great, especially if you need help right now, and can't wait.
You will find more information on the Safeworlds web site:
I have divided the NB Writers Safeworld into the following areas:
NOTABENE SPECIFIC AREAS:
General editing issues.
Ibidem issues.
Orbis issues.
Lingua issues.
Academic style issues.
Bookwhere issues.
Template issues.
Grammar issues.
GENERAL WRITING AREAS:
Grammar issues.
Ask an editor --- I'm hoping an editor or two will volunteer to answer
questions.
WIP (Works in progress) where we can cheer each other on.
POD (Print on demand books) issues.
OTHER AREAS:
Chit Chat --- off topic about whatever; get to know your friends.
All --- announcements, etc. for everyone.
Other areas can easily be added as needed.
Even if no one else is logged on, you can leave a message and others will
receive it when they log on.
The software includes both public and private checklists. You can make a
to-to list for yourself only, or for everyone. Other features will be
added soon.
If you have trouble installing the software of logging on, please let me know.
Remember, this is the information you need to log on after installing the
software:
World Name: NB Writers
Username: Guest
Password: pass
Once you log on, click on the accounts group, and give:
1. Your complete real name.
2. Your email address.
3. A short user name you would like to use (otherwise I'll use your first
name and last initial.
