append--all is well

Mark, Mervyn, Herb--Many thanks for the quick response and the clear
instructions.  I followed Mark's directions and all went well, except that I
ended up simply appending my data file before adding a new record (the first
time I tried it, it renumbered the appended records).  Then got Mervyn's
message.  I have long ago heeded Mervyn's injunctions to back up, back up
those Ibidem data files.  So ultimately I wasn't worried.  Everything
is--JUST AS IT WAS--including access from files of completed book.  Thanks
