Numbering Lists
I have been in the habit of putting several numbered columns of titles
over identification sections in tests. In NBDos I used the automatic
numbering system so that if I had to add or delete one of the titles or
questions, I would not have to renumber. For those of you from the
NBDos generation, I discovered that there are some changes that need
noting.
1) There are only four numbering sequences available: C11, C12, C13, &
C14.
2) If you use all four, you can start over with C11 if the first
number occurs after the last number of the first sequence.
3) My old C1, C2, C3, C4, and C5 still worked pretty well. However,
these, along with C6 & C7 would have been absorbed for use with
frameworks if I had had a framework operational. C8 is for Figure C9
for Table, and C10 for Index.
Those who have signed on with NBWin needn't worry with most this arcane
stuff; it can be handled through menus: Insert > Numbered Items.
However, there is some crucial information that isn't included on the
Help page for Numbered Lists. If you need to start or continue an
alphabetical list with I, V, X, L, C, D, or M, or their lower-case
equivalents, simply entering the letter will begin a sequence of roman
numerals II, III, IV, etc. You will need to put double quotation marks
(") before the letter to continue the alphabetic sequence (I, J, K,
etc.).
