        Thanks for your suggestions about solving my problem with crashes in 
general and ibidem in particular. Mervyn, I hadn't even noticed the 
"Recover" facility in NB, and using that has solved my problems about 
random crashes. In regard to scandisk, I use it regularly.  I'm also a 
defragger from way back, but I don't tell too many people about that. I was 
using the latest version of NBW, but have gone back to 5.1 with no updates, 
and Ibidem works perfectly. It is something in the latest update that has 
caused problems for me. Andrew Hahn suggested that my use of the straight 
apostrophe might have caused my problem, but I am still not yet sure about 
that, especially given that Ibidem works for me in 5.1 but not with the 
lates update. I will pursue more of that when I return from my Christmas 
holidays.
        I am about to have Christmas in the sun and by the beach, together with 
a 
4 week holiday, so I want to thank everyone who has helped with the various 
queries I have posted during the year. Best wishes for 2001.
