Re: Major Problems with Ibidem
Dear Notabenieri, esp David Santis and Andrew Hahn
Thanks for
your prompt replies to my problem with Ibidem. You both mention the
presence of transliterated aleph and ayin symbols. Well, record
number 6 (the point at which the program hangs when I scroll) has no
transliteration of aleph or ayin, nor did the offending records I
removed. In any case, I don't use any NB'S transliteration symbols, only
Hebrew and Greek characters. If a title of a bibliographic reference uses
transliterated Hebrew, I have copied ayin or aleph by using the ancient
substitute of an inverted comma - so the Hebrew word for oracle in one of
my titles is written as ne'um, the form in which it is printed in
the title of the article.
I have
checked the Ibidem database file for any odd looking characters in record
6 and the others which gave me problems, but found nothing. BTW the
program also hangs at the same point on my notebook as well. I have also
run Ibidiag on the DOS Ibidem files. It reports the presence of the
sequence ":<<" in a number of places, but not at record
6. The first of these is at record no 77.
So, still
very much in the dark and looking for light.
Thanks again
John
