Some random stabs:

Don't just reboot; sometimes system memory problems don't get fully 
flushed out unless you turn the thing off and turn it on again.

If you can print to the printer in DOS, don't log on to the network at 
all  (unplug it even).  Network drivers are the source of much woe.

You don't say what the size of the NB file is, or if it involves many 
cross-references, etc. - stuff NB has to keep track of while it prints. 
Do what you can to lower NB memory usage, avoiding the use of 
manuscript files if possible.

There's a sign next to the Xerox machine in the office that says:  
Never let a mechanical device know that you are in a hurry.
