Now that you remind me, I think it was after reading your messages abt
Opera that I got it. Many thanks for the good steer, even if you had
problems with it. 

What version of opera did you last try? It's at 3.6 now, and considerably
improved. When you say you couldn't find downloads, do you mean that Opera
stashed them somewhere mysterious (remediable somewhere in the Preferences
menu), or that you got a lot of broken downloads that didn't resume?
Several people on the list have recently given the names of programs that
resume downloads for you. The one I use is called GetRight - 

   http://www.getright.com/

It works very well, and so I expect do the others that people have
recommended. I think there was at least 1 freeware program among those
recommended. I chose GetRight because it said it worked with Opera.
