manuals

I think the lack of printed manuals is lamentable. In the past, I have
learned both essentials and fine points of programs through browsing,
systematic reading, and looking things up in the index. I find online
help to be a far inferior method of learning a program. One problem with
online help is that you can't simply print out the whole thing and get
the equivalent of a printed manual, since Windows permits only the
current topic to be printed. Also, there is a loss of any systematic
treatment of the software when documentation is divided into short
"help" screens.

If the Powers that Be are reading, *please* consider offering a printed
manual or at least a printable manual on the CD, so we can kill our own
trees if we like. NB-users in particular tend to be readers and, I
think, are more put off by the absence of manuals than the average user.
(Of course, if TPTB at M-------t are reading, I wish they'd bring back
printed manuals also!)

Any ideas you might think you find in this message are mine; any resemblance
to ideas of anyone else--real, imaginary, living, dead, employer, coworker,
