In all likelihood you had an end-of-file marker inadvertently inserted at
that point.  The thing to do in such a case is to use an appropriate utility
to remove it, or to change the EOF marker setting in NB to some innocuous
unique character combination, call the file and delete the offending
occurrence and then change the setting in NB back to what it was.
