Orbis malfunction

My Orbis won't orbit. I'd appreciate help from anybody. Here's the history:
Weeks ago I had a disk disaster, from which I've been slowly recovering. I
knew I would have to re-build my Textbases but wasn't worried by that because
my data files were recovered. But when I tried, Orbis failed. I've re-
installed NB 4.5. I deleted all the old entries in the Orbis sub-directory and
then re-installed Orbis. I run the NB and Ibidem under Win95 without other
problems. Orbis is now failing whether I run it under Win95 or in a re-boot in
MS-DOS mode. I've been stopped at 2 points:
1. A crash occurs when I attempt to select a directory from the Tree that
Orbis generates as part of the file-selection process. As soon as I press
<Enter> to make a selection, Win95 shuts the program down and tells me it
performed an "illegal operation." If I'm in MS-DOS mode, the screen fills with
garbage and the computer hangs totally.
2. If I by-pass that Tree-selection feature and instead give Orbis a list of
files to index, it does so without apparent problem. I was able in this way to
create and use one of my Textbases. I was also able to create a second one.
However, Orbis shuts down when I attempt, from opening its menu, to Pick a
database. "Error opening file" it says, and dumps me back into NB, allowing me
to access neither Textbase.
Any enlightened experience out there at this Christmas season? If so, I'll be
grateful for hearing about it.
