non-NB: fax

Inspired by the helpful comments on telnet, I repeat this request, to
which I got no response last summer:  I am looking for a good fax
program, that doesn't create all sorts of complications and try to
take over all my communications, but is good at sending and receiving
on demand (which isn't very often).  My ideal was the QL2fax that
came with my modem on the old machine, but Smith won't sell that
separately:  they have a fancier package that is both fax and mail.
Is anybody using something that they are particularly happy with?
