NBLingua and Epson LQ 850 pin-printer

This is a question from a world of ancient hardware, but has anyone on the
list experience with NB4.x and the Epson LQ 850 24-pin printer? A
colleague told me that he stopped using NB more than a year ago when an
upgrade (he doesn't remember which) made printing on this printer
impossible, since only the first couple of pages would have all ltters
printed and random selections of accented letters disappeared from the
following pages (printout only). I would like to lure him back to our
favourite word-processor, but the only suggestion I could come up with was
to buy a new printer. Any other suggestions?
