to all,
I recently got a pre-release version of NBWin at the American
Anthropology Meetings in December [as an aside, the
demonstration looked good, especially the outline functions --
though there are a sufficient number of bugs that I was told they
would prefer not to distribute it for another few weeks]. I can't report
too much on its functions because of a problem that I am having
with converting my Ibid+ database to Ibidem. I am hoping that this
is a problem Ibidem rather than NBWin, and so perhaps someone
can offer some assistance!
I did not buy Ibidem, and have been using NB 4.5 with Ibid+. In the
NBWin version of Ibidem, there is a there is an option to convert old
databases. I have tried to use this to convert my Ibid+ database --
and it does part of the job and then freezes. The first stage would
seem to be converting from ASCII to ANSI, which it does without
apparent problems. The program then, having converted the
database, asks if I want it indexed. Naturally, I say yes, and it
proceeds to index it. And then freezes, consistently. It says it is
running process 2 of 3, at the point of 'sorting the keys into
temporary files', and stops at the 88% finished point.
The database is a bibliographic database, with 1615 records in two
files. I have run Ibidiag 2.05, with no reported problems in the
database, and have no problems reindexing the NB4.5/Ibib+ version
of the database. I have not tried to convert the existing database,
but copy the nbbib*.* files over to a different directory and try the
conversion on those copied files.
Suggestions?
If I can solve this, then I can use and report on NBWin, which
certainly looks nice!
regards,
Lee Komito
