Actually, I don't think you have to remove that utility; setting the
printer to *not* spool DOS print jobs should be adequate. Now that NB4
has DJ540-specific drivers for NB4 and Lingua, it works very nicely if
you make sure your Win95 settings aren't interfering. Also, as I recall,
it does use PCL3-- sorry, I don't have the manuals here right now.
I'm not currently using the DJ540, but did for a number of years, and my
husband is currently using it with Win95 (but not NB...) The DJ Control
Panel (both the Dos and the GUI version) is very convenient for cleaning
the print head and running a test page after installing a new cartridge,
as well as other trouble shooting, so you may not want to remove it if
lessor steps prove effective.
Steps to turn off Win95 (and Win98?) spooling of DOS print jobs:
1. In Win 95, select *Printers* from the Control Panel or from
Settings on the Start menu.
2. Right-click on your printer, choose *Properties*, then the
*Details* tab,
3. Near the bottom, click on *Port Settings*, and make sure the
box next to Spool MS-DOS Print Jobs is *not* checked.
4. Click OK to close the Properties dialog; settings will be saved.
Good luck!
