When I used to send my mail to vm.tau.ac.il  from a vm (IBM
mainframe) machine, and maybe it also works with others, I would get
an acknowledgement (since I did not have noack as one of my
subscription options) that told me how many people the message was
sent out to.  The acknowledgement is sent as a direct message
(equivalent ot the vm "tell" command), not a mail message, so if
you're using an offline mailer (as I now am) you wouldn't receive it.
