Job Opening - ABE Learning Center Coordinator
The Minnesota Literacy Council has a FT opening for an ABE Learning
Center Coordinator at its North Side Learning Center location in
Minneapolis. Duties include: development and implementation of ABE
services at the site, coordinate all daily activities of the Learning
Center to ensure the timely and appropriate placement of learners and
volunteers in on-site classes; recruit learners and tutors to the center
using a variety of methods; provide direction, support, and supervision
to volunteer tutors; complete intake forms and testing for each learner;
refer learners to other programs as appropriate; maintain accurate
records on tutor, learner, and center activities; produce reports as
needed; find substitutes for tutors and teachers as needed and
substitute teach if necessary. Daytime and evening hours required.

This position involves providing direct instruction to adults in an Adult Basic
Education program in Blaine on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Responsibilities
will include providing direct instruction to high level non-native English
speaking adult students who are working to improve their reading skills,
vocabulary, independent study skills and conversation. The position will
include teaching as a team member, assisting with student assessment, returning
student phone calls, monitoring student attendance, completing necessary
student record keeping and providing support for on-site literacy assistants
and volunteers as requested
Minimum qualifications include a valid MN teaching license and/or degree in
teaching English as a Second Language, Linguistics or Bilingual Education.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience working with diverse
populations, proven ability to work successfully in an ABE program, training in
working with adult learners, Reading or GED, cooperative learning and computer
experience with MS Office, Word, Excel, Internet, email and adult educational
software.
Starting Hourly Wage: $20.86, plus benefits package

Community Organizer Skyline Tower
The Lexington-Hamline Community Council, St. Paul's first neighborhood
organization, is seeking a part-time community organizer. The organizer will
assume primary responsibility for the development of a viable and sustainable
resident association structure at Skyline Tower, a 504-unit subsidized housing
high-rise, that ultimately engages and enhances the community. The Community
Organizer will work in collaboration with Skyline Residents, the
Lexington-Hamline Community Council (LHCC) Board of Directors, LHCC staff and
CommonBond Communities. The Community Organizer is accountable directly to the
Board of Directors and the Executive Director of LHCC.
Minimum Requirements
1. Demonstrated ability to work well cross-culturally.
2. Experience coordinating the efforts of groups of people.
3. Excellent interpersonal and verbal communications skills.
4. Experienced user of Windows and Word. Ability to learn other MS office
software programs
5. Excellent organizational and management skills.
6. Knowledge of East African cultures, the refugee experience and
immigration issues.
7. Bi-lingual in English and Somali or other East African language.
Preferred Skills and Experience
1. Program development experience.
2. Experience working with volunteers.
3. Knowledge of affordable housing programs, particularly large
multi-family communities.
4. Familiarity with human services and community resources.
Candidates must have a reliable transportation plan and be willing and able to
work evenings and weekends. This is a one-year position for the second year of
a two-year grant. The position will build on efforts accomplished during the
first year of funding. 32 hours per week, $14/hour plus benefits. Qualified

Twin Cities German Immersion School
JOB POSTING FOR SCHOOL YEAR 2006-2007
Twin Cities German Immersion School (TCGIS) is a charter school which opened in
Minneapolis-St. Paul in the fall of 2005 with Kindergarten and 1st grade. We
will be adding a grade every year until we reach a K-8 configuration.
Seeking two additional elementary teachers for the 2006-2007 school year and a
part-time art specialist. We are looking for passionate, dedicated, and
resourceful candidates who are interested in and eligible to teach:
Kindergarten, Grade 1 or Grade 2
The successful teaching candidate MUST have:
* Bachelor's Degree completed by June 2006, with a minimum GPA of 3.0
* Valid Minnesota elementary teaching license or Elementary teaching
certification from a German-speaking country and a commitment to work with
TCGIS and the State Board of Teaching to receive provisional licensure
Please note: A K-12 certification to teach German is NOT adequate unless the
additional licensure (art, special ed, or regular elementary classroom teacher)
is also present!
