School for Shan State Nationalities Youth (SSSNY) 

2 Positions Available

The School for Shan State  Nationalities Youth
Teachers of English and Social Studies 

About  Us
Based in Thailand, SSSNY provides English, social studies and computer  
skills to young people of various nationalities from Shan State. Each  course 
lasts 
9 months, from January to October and is an intensive course  of learning, with 
high expectations of participation from all students and  instructors. 
Graduates 
of the school have gone on to become active in  promoting the communities' 
needs 
and further education/training  opportunities to strengthen their skills in 
the community. The students  come from various ethnic groups, and from a wide 
variety of  social/economic/political/educational backgrounds. Their English 
level on  entry ranges from elementary to upper-intermediate. As a teacher at 
SSSNY,  you will be expected to teach some mixed-level English classes and 
Social  Studies and to be available for social English conversation outside 
of  class time.  

In addition, there will be a short  skills-upgrade intensive course for 8 
older applicants who currently work  in the community. The content of the 
training 
will be determined by  applicants needs, and will take place during the second 
terms 
of the SSSNY  Academic year in 2006.  

Duties
*       Deliver  the SSSNY's English language and social studies curricula 
to approx. 29  youth from Shan State as full time teacher for complete course 
of 
9 months  (January 15 ­ October 15, 2006);  
*       Teaching up to  20 hours per week, with appropriate lesson 
preparation &  planning;
*       As  required, tutor specific skills;  
*       Provide regular  tests (bi-monthly, term and  final)
*       Provide  quarterly narrative and annual reports to the Co-ordination 
Team detailing  students' progress;  
*       Attend monthly  meetings with the Co-ordination Team, advisors and 
student representatives  to discuss student progress;  
*       Participate in  regular one-on-one academic and career counseling  
*       Provide  narrative report on student's progress;  
*       Attend monthly  weekend field trips;  
*       Assist with  preparation of documentation as required by the Co-
ordination Team;  
*       Any other  associated curriculum development; 

Qualifications, skills, experience  

Essential
*       CELTA,  Trinity TESOL or comparable ESL or EFL  qualification
*       at  least 2 years EFL teaching  experience
*       ability  to teach mixed- level students from a variety of  backgrounds
*       knowledge  or strong interest in the situation of refugees/youth from 
Shan  State
*       adaptability,  enthusiasm, commitment  

Preferred
*       experience  teaching social studies (the social studies curriculum 
will 
be delivered  in  English)
*       experience  in social activism  
*       native English  speaker (optional)   

Benefits
*       salary  negotiable, dependent on experience (minimum Baht 20,000)  
*       visa expenses  paid 
*       meals  provided at the school

Teaching Opportunity in Korea
We have established a branch school in Korea on the campus of Jeon Ju
University.  It will be a branch Nacel International School, based on
the model at Hamline University.
 
We are looking for teachers to teach a three week English prep course in
February with the possibility of having a position through next July.
Here are some of the facts:
 
For the three week program:
 
Depart on or about 1 -5 February
Receive a round trip ticket to Seoul
$3,000 in salary stipend
Free room and board
Access to Korean healthcare and if we can arrange it US health care or
if the recruit has a health care provider we will cover the expense
while they are teaching.
Excursion in Seoul and weekend in Shanghai, China
 
There is potential for a five month contract and
401k, life insurance, excursion to Beijing and a stipend of $3200 -
3500 per month or a full school year contract.
Each contract will come with a round trip ticket back home.
