Lincoln Adult Education Center, a non-profit adult (ABE) English as a
second language program, has several part-time openings.
* Opening for an ESL teacher in downtown Minneapolis, 20 hours per
week, Monday -Friday, 9am - noon. Teach a beginning level course to
adult learners who speak Hmong, Somali, Spanish and other languages.
Course will run June 24 to Aug 24 with the possibility of continuing.
* Opening for an ESL teacher in downtown Minneapolis, 15 hours per
week, Monday - Thursday, 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm. Teach a low intermediate
level course to adult learners who speak Hmong, Somali, Spanish and
other languages. Course will run June 24 to Aug 24 with the possibility
of continuing.
* Opening for part-time workforce ESL teacher to teach beginning
job-related ESL course to employees at a bakery in South Minneapolis.
Two days a week, 7:15 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. and/or 5:00 p.m. - 6:15 p.m.
Early July through late August, with potential to continue. Proficiency
in Spanish preferred.
Qualified candidates will have coursework in TESOL and at least one year

Students ranging in age from 7-14 are attending this after school English
Immersion
Academy to have conversational English lessons. Teaching duties are: maximum

Compensation: housing, round-trip airline ticket, and 2.1 million Won per

Qualification for Appointment of Native * speaking English Teachers (NETs)
under the Enhanced Native-speaking English Teacher (NET) Scheme in Secondary
Schools
The applicant should be a native * speaker of English (meaning English being
the person's native language) or possess native-speaker English competence.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in teaching English as a
second / foreign language.
For appointment in special schools, preference will be given to applicants who
have special education training and / or experience in teaching students with
special education needs.
Appointment of native-speaking English teachers (NETs) should be considered
according to the following order of priority:
Category 1 (to be appointed at Graduate Master / Mistress (GM) rank, MPS pt. 12
* 33)
a bachelor's degree in English Language or English Literature or English
Studies or Linguistics# or a Modern Language# OR a Bachelor in Education degree
(major in English or a Modern Language#, but not primary education specialist)
obtained after 3 years' full-time study; and
a Post * graduate Diploma in Education majoring in English or equivalent; and
a Teaching of English as Foreign Language or a Second Language(TEFL / TESL)
qualification at least at diploma level; and
at least 1 year's post * graduate experience of teaching English preferably as
a second or foreign language at secondary level or above.
Category 2 (to be appointed at GM rank, MPS pt. 12 * 33)
a bachelor's degree in English Language or English Literature or English
Studies or Linguistics# or a Modern Language#; OR a Bachelor in Education
degree (major in English or a Modern Language#, but not primary education
specialist) obtained after 3 years' full * time study; and
a Post * graduate Diploma in Education majoring in English or equivalent; and
at least 1 year's post * graduate experience of teaching English preferably as
a second or foreign language at secondary level or above.
Note:
# A degree in Linguistics or Modern Languages should be one in which English is
the major language studies.
Terms of Appointment & Salary (The figures may not be very exact though close
because of a recent universal salary cut in the civil service)
The appointment will be on a two * year contract from 16 August 2004 to 15
August 2006, subject to renewal after expiry.
The salary scale is HK $16587 to HK $45090 (approx. *US$2,131 to US$5,793) per
month (12months / year) plus 15% gratuity on completion of contract. The salary
to be offered is determined on the basis of the candidates' qualifications and
post * degree teaching experience.
Appointees with a PGDE or equivalent (not TEFL / TESL qualifications) will
enter at HK $18,483 (approx. *US $2,374) per month.
Those without a PGDE will enter at the minimum of the pay scale and will not be
permitted to proceed beyond HK $21,412 (approx. *US2,751) per month.
Passage, baggage and medical allowances and a special allowance of HK $13,000
(approx. *US $1,670) per month are provided for appointees whose normal place
of residence is outside Hong Kong. (A teacher will not be eligible for the
special allowance if he / she or his / her spouse is already receiving the same
allowance or any housing benefit from his / her own employer.)
The salary and the terms and conditions of service are subject to the
prevailing conditions at the same time the offer of appointment is made.
It is statutory requirement under the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes
Ordinance (MPFSO) (Cap. 485) that all employees in Hong Kong have to enroll in
an MPF Scheme. The contribution rate for both the employer and the employee
prescribed in the prevailing provisions of the MPFSO is 5% of the employee's
income (excluding Special Allowance), subject to the maximum level of income of
HK $20,000 per month. The gratuity payable for the contract will be the sum
which, when added toe the employer's contribution to the said MPF scheme,
equals 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the period of the contract.
