ESL Instructor Job Description
Position(s) Available: Part-time ESL Instructor
Description:
Teach adults English as a Second Language. The ESL class meets Tuesday and
Thursday evenings from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. All instructor positions are part-time
contractual opportunities with a duration of twelve weeks on a tri-annual
basis. Contracts are renewable based on performance and student enrollment.
Beginning salary is $21 an hour.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate:
Has a B.A. or M.A. in either English as a second language, Education or
Linguistics and or a history of related teaching experience.
Has experience teaching adults.
Has patience and values multicultural perspectives and experiences.
Is enthusiastic, flexible, professional, responsible and able to work
autonomously.
Promotes an interactive classroom with a heavy emphasis on student
participation.
Has good communication skills both verbal and written.
Is able to motivate and make learning accessible as well as stimulating.
Is comfortable working independently.
Duties:
To prepare syllabi from selected texts and supplemental materials
To address all language skills in the classroom - speaking, listening, reading,
and writing - with an emphasis placed on speaking and listening
To attend occasional staff meetings when notified by the Coordinator
To interact cooperatively with other teachers and IIM staff as needed

Adult ESL
Cedar Riverside People's Center has an opening for a temporary (April to
mid-Nov.) 5 hours per week ( split into 2 ?½ hours twice per week) grant-funded
position, teaching ESL to adults. The class has typically been scheduled for
late afternoon. This should be a great opportunity for either a second job or
for someone wanting to get some experience in this area. We need someone who
can bring materials to use with the class. The pay rate is $13.48/hr. Please

AN ENGLISH VILLAGE IN CHINA
English is a more and more important part of Chinese children's
education. TipTopTown brings the English-speaking world to them, in
China !
PARTICIPANTS
Chinese boys and girls, age 9 to 13.
APPROACH
TipTopTown is an imaginary country. On arrival, students
receive a village passport and become Australian, American, English,
Scottish, or Irish "citizens". They choose an English name. They live
in a room named London or Sydney or New York. They meet historical or fictional
figures (Robin Hood, Harry Potter...). They celebrate
holidays like Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day. They sing English
songs.
STAFF NEEDED
One camp director of Chinese origin,
experience in English teaching and organizing activities for children.
One ESL coordinator: native English-speaker,
experience in ESL teaching, knowledge of Chinese, language village or
summer camp experience preferred.
counselors : native English speakers with some
knowledge of Chinese (ideally with living experience in China) or
Chinese citizens with excellent English. Experience working with
children, skill in one or more of the following areas: arts and
crafts, drama, music, dance, or sports.
Compensation according to qualifications and experience. Room and
board provided. Staff members are responsible for their own travel
expenses.
LOCATION AND DATES
TipTopTown will be organized at Oriental Green Haven, a
beautiful area on the edge of Dingshan Lake, an hour west of the
center of Shanghai. Two 3-week sessions: July 2 - 22 and July 24 - August 13.
Staff orientation begins June 28.

VOLUNTEER SUMMER TEACHING EXPERIENCE IN GREECE
Anatolia College runs a summer ESF/EFL Day Camp in Northern Greece and
welcomes American university students intern opportunities to work as
ESL/EFL Teachers or Teacher Assistants June 20-July 1, 2005.
We are especially interested in elementary education or TESOL Majors.
"Special Activities" Teachers are also invited to apply (art, computer
science, drama, etc).
Teachers attend a required (free) full day EFL Teaching workshop prior to the
camp, then work weekdays 8am-3pm with afternoons and weekends free.
Thessaloniki is less than an hour from some of the most beautiful beaches in
Greece.
We have hosted students from University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign,
Niagara University, Duke University, University of New Orleans, Grinnell
University, and are happy to communicate with other schools to coordinate
student exchanges. Students are supervised by credentialed educators.

Arabic
This course will introduce you to the Arabic language by teaching you
how to speak, read and write in Arabic. Class will include the Arabic
alphabet, basic grammar, numbers, root words, and history of the
language, its development, and its lexicons and dialects.
Mohamad Anwar was born in Egypt, received his M.S. in Geology, moved to the USA
in 1997, and received his Minnesota court system certification for Arabic
Language and Minnesota Literacy Council (MLC) certifications for Literacy and
ESL.
