TFieldDataLink

I am trying to add a component that uses TMaskEdit as its base 
class.  It needs to be data-aware, so I have added a TFieldDataLink 
as a member variable.  

When constructing my data-aware component, I call the default 
constructor of the TFieldDataLink member "myFieldDataLink = new 
TFieldDataLink();"  The FieldDataLink shows up in my object 
inspector, and has the + sign (to expand for properties), but won't 
do anything when you try to expand it.  It only turns into a -.

Anybody know what to do??
