Using InterBase's Array Fields

I can't for the life of me figure out how to use Interbase's array fields
from BCB.
According to the documentation, they can be read from an SQL statement,
but they can only be populated using Interbase's API.  I tryed ...
but no cigar.
Does anyone have any experience with these?
