DATE FUNCTIONS

If you go to help index and enter year you will be brought to an all 
uppercase YEAR() and referenced to several other date functions such as 
NOW(), MONTH(), ETC. There are examples for several of these. My 
questions is what are they? There is no reference to a needed lib, 
include or dll and when I put any of them in my code I always get back 
an error mx to the effect unknown function. Any help will be greatly 
appreciated.
