Re: [BCB3] Adding Custom Components to the Palette
I assume by palette you mean Package. I agree Packages are a pain. I have
chosen to turn them off, on the Project\options\packages menu page.
If you build without packages, and turn off dynamic linking, you can create
a self contained exe just like BCB1. That works for me. I think packages are
just for very large projects. See Day 9, pg. 362-366 of Kent's teach
yourself book.
When I install components using the *.pas file, they work fine, I think,
although I haven't tested extensively. Did you make Delphi components
without source work in BCB1? Hopefully the vendors of your custom components
will come out with free upgrades to BCB3? I think the changes are very
minimal.
I have the Pro version if that matters. It came with a users guide, but you
should have that on CD. I haven't looked at it yet. Just Kent's book. The
help files function well so far. Seems like a more solid product than V1.
Give it a couple of days. The new components are pretty good. CoolBar,
ToolBar, Splitter, Graph, Chart, CheckListbox, Animate, Internet (not ocx),
DBChart, improved QReport. Seems pretty worthwhile.
