[BCB1][BCB3] Dataset not in Edit or Insert mode

I get this error when I try to open a table at run time.

The table is part of a Data Module.  After the program starts, I open
the data base to read some directory info stored there.  When I try to
execute the Table->Open(), it returns with a Edatabase Error, Dataset
not in Edit or Insert mode.  How can you set the Dataset mode.  There
appears to be no property or method to permit this.

What is even more irritating is that fact that I am not even trying to
edit or insert, merely read.
