In response to earlier questions (re: last email of yours to this list), if you use the BDE you do need to redistribute with your application.  The easiest way to do this is use Install Shield Express (came with BCB) and enable the full BDE.  This will only transfer the old version unfortunately, but the recipient of your package can also run the upgrade that you downloaded to upgrade their own machine.  Then the aliases need to be made.  BDE is a lot faster than using the ADO / DAO with ODBC.
