TCP Component timeout

Hi Friends,
I have a problem in using the TCP component provided by BC++ builder.
The current TCP component doesn't have a timeout mechanism (method) by
which it can come out if it is not able to receive (the Acknowledgement)
data after sending some information to the Server.

1 ) I tried to Implement this mechanism by creating a seperate thread
and trying to connect from the thread. I got the following error when I
tried to connect to the server from the thread. "NWSocketInit must be
called before connect"

2) I connected to the server from the Form button click event and when I
tried to send the data from the thread the application crashed .

Can anyone help me in sorting this problem or suggest some better method
of implementing the timeout mechanism using TCP component
