In need of a little advice

Hello all,

    I am writing a database app in which I wish to autoincrement one field in relation to another.  For example if I have a field called TrackName and a field called Position.  I want to be able to automatically update the position of a car for every TrackName.  Lets say TrackName = Track1 and I have cars in positions 1, 2 , and 3.  How do I automatically assign the next car on Track1 with position 4? Any advice is much appreciated.  Thanks much in advance
