On Friday, October 13, Pol. Sci. 111 will have a guest speaker, former Congressional Representative Tim Penney. Since resigning his congressional seat in 1993, Penney has become a minor media celebrity trying to build political support for a balanced federal budget proposal.

He will address the Pol. Sci. 111 class at 9:00 am. I am asking the 8:00 section of that class to attend the 9:00 session on that day so that you can hear Penney. If you have a conflict that will prevent your attendance, please see me.

Penney is being brought to us courtesy of Hamline alumnus, Christopher Hoven. Chris is a recent Political Science major graduate who worked as the Office Manager of Penney's Washington Office. He currently does the same job for Minnesota Representative Bill Luther. Since Chris has proved himself adept at getting into the Washington scene and holding on in a very tough environment, he would be a good person for you to raise questions about finding employment in the federal government.
