Contextualizing Middle and High School Science Courses
for Urban and Urban-Like Learners (2 credits)

Put urban learners at the center of creative science instruction. Identify and utilize urban learners’ daily experiences and cultures in designing science curriculum that is relevant, motivating, and rigorous. Inquiry and problem solving methods will be employed to investigate contextually significant scientific phenomena and encourage students’ application of these methods. Engage in field trips, maintain journals, and develop lesson plans that utilize hands-on activities to meet graduation standards.
