Center for Excellence in Urban Teaching

History

The Center for Excellence in Urban Teaching owes much of its success to the visionary leadership of the Travelers Foundation.

Recognizing the urgent need for significant improvements in urban teacher preparation, Travelers Foundation awarded Hamline University a planning grant, which provided the time and resources needed to develop the Center's current programs.

Current funders include: Medtronic, Minnesota Department of Education, Minnesota Office of Higher Education, Otto Bremer Foundation, State Farm/Heartland, Travelers, and United Way.

The Center for Excellence in Urban Teaching began in 1996. Today, the Center is an integral part of Hamline University’s School of Education. The Center offers programs for pre-service teachers, graduate coursework, and professional development for teachers, schools, and districts.
