  • Department Scholarships: Digital Media Arts

    Hamline’s Digital Media Arts Scholarships are designed for students who have a demonstrated interest, aptitude, and passion for digital media arts. This award is renewable for up to four years in the amount of $3,000 per year.

    Transfer student application deadline: March 15

    First-year student application deadline: January 15

    scholarship Criteria

    Admitted students applying for this scholarship should be planning to major in Digital Media Arts. Scholarship holders will be expected to participate in yearly portfolio reviews and be active in the activities of the program. A major in Digital Media Arts is required to maintain this scholarship. 

    All required materials for admission to Hamline University must be submitted before applying for departmental scholarships. Scholarship applications and materials received after the deadline will not be considered. Scholarships are only awarded to students who have received an offer of admission from Hamline University.

    Audition Process

    A select group of students will be invited to campus on February 9, 2013 to meet with the Scholarship Selection Committee as the final step of the award process. Scholarship finalists should be prepared to present a new or longer sample of their work (5 minutes max for viewing or listening to new materials). The Scholarship Selection Committee will ask questions about the work, your interests, topics from your statement and ideas you have about media and the future of media communication.

    How to Maintain This Scholarship

    To maintain this scholarship, the recipient must maintain a 3.0 GPA, participate in annual portfolio reviews and be active in the activities of the program, and declare a major in Digital Media Arts by the end of the sophomore year.

    Required materials

    : This statement should have two parts. In the first part discuss your experiences, education, and interests related to digital media. The review committee will use these comments to get a sense of your background and work. In the second part discuss your work sample submission. Reflect on your creative process and comment on specific works with a particular focus on what you learned from that project. Conclude your essay with a statement of how you see work as a digital media artist shaping your life and career choices. Please limit this statement to two pages in length.

    : This letter should come from someone who can speak to your work as a media artist. It can come from a teacher, a professional with whom you have worked, or someone who knows you well.

    : Send us a five minute sample of your best work. For example a demo reel, a clip from a film, animation, web page design, a soundtrack, or some examples of projects you have or are working on.

    You do not need to apply for academic and other scholarships; they are awarded based on your admission materials.

    Talent Scholarships 

    To apply for Talent Scholarships:

    1. Click on the specific scholarship link for which you would like to apply.

    2. Complete separate application form for each talent scholarship; submit form.

    3. Follow instructions on each scholarship page to submit additional required materials by scholarship deadline.
