    Work-Study

A campus job (work-study) is part of many financial aid awards. If you are offered a work opportunity, you are assigned an amount of money you may work for during the academic year. Students interview for jobs after school begins so they may be assured of the opportunity to work for that portion of their financial assistance. Starting rates are $7.25 per hour; hiring and salary decisions are made by each supervisor. Students are paid once a month by check. Examples of work-study jobs include office assistant, tutor, tour guide, receptionist, and groundskeeper.

    Loans

Loans are an important way for students to assist in paying for the cost of their college education. Most financial aid awards include a recommended loan. You may apply for a loan in the summer prior to starting your first year of school. Some families decide to pursue a loan option after the school year has begun. If you would like to know all your student and parent loan options, we strongly encourage you to file a FAFSA.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a quick way to determine if I will receive financial aid?

Yes. Visit www.fafsa4caster.ed.gov and enter basic information to receive an estimate of your expected family contribution (EFC).

If your EFC is less than Hamline’s costs, you will be eligible for need-based financial aid at Hamline, which may include federal, state, or Hamline monies. If your EFC is higher than our costs, you will still be eligible for merit-based scholarships, work study, and loan opportunities.

If I don’t show eligibility for need-based financial aid, does Hamline offer scholarships?

Academic scholarships are awarded to students regardless of family income or assets, and are based on high school transcript, accomplishments, and potential.

How do I pay for Hamline?

Hamline University is sensitive to the financial concerns of its students and families. We know that a quality education is a significant investment -- it is our objective to be your partner in this venture. To assist, we have established three payment plan options:

Prepayment discount plan: Make one payment for the entire coming year’s tuition, fees, room and board (less any financial aid award) by June 15 and earn a 3 percent discount on the total cost. Contact the Office of Student Accounts by June 1 to have your 3 percent discount calculated.

Semester plan: Make two payments—by August 15 for the fall semester and by January 15 for the spring semester. This is the default payment plan and you’ll be enrolled in this option unless you elect one of the other two plans.

Installment plan: Make 10 monthly payments over the academic year. Payments are due beginning August 1 and ending May 1. The cost for the installment plan is $75 per year or $40 per semester.

You may pay with cash, check, or MasterCard, Discover, or American Express credit cards with a convenience fee.
