Pipers squeek out win against Salve Regina

By winning three of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches, the Hamline University women's tennis team defeated Salve Regina University, 5-4, in Orlando, Florida on Wednesday.

The three junior Pipers, Kelly Gust (East Grand Forks, Minn.), Liz Gunderson (New Prague, Minn.) and Sara Mitambo (Minneapolis, Minn.) swept their matches to lead Hamline to the victory.

Gust and Gunderson teamed up at first doubles to post an 8-3 victory, while Mitambo paired at second with Kristen Kiemele (Fy., Eagan, Minn.) for the 8-5 win.

Heading into singles, the juniors captured the first through third singles victories. Gust earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at first singles, while Gunderson cruised through her second singles match, 6-0, 6-0. Mitambo then battled through a 6-3, 6-4 win at third singles for the fifth Piper point.

Hamline's record improves to 4-5. 0-1 MIAC as the Pipers remain in Orlando for one more day of matches over spring break.
