Pipers take all nine against Knights

The Hamline University women's tennis team swept visiting Martin Luther College, 9-0, in St. Paul on Saturday.

Kelly Gust (Jr., East Grand Forks, Minn.) needed a tiebreaker in the first set, but pulled out the straight-sets victory at first singles, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.

The Pipers only dropped one game between second and third singles, with Liz Gunderson (Jr., New Prague, Minn.) cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 win at second, and Sara Mitambo (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn.) winning easily at third, 6-0, 6-0.

Ashley Johnson (Fy., Maplewood, Minn.) won her first collegiate match by going to a third set super-breaker at fifth singles, 6-7, 6-0 (10-6). Kate Burnevik (So., Minneapolis, Minn.) also won her first collegiate match, winning 6-3, 6-2 at sixth singles.

All three Piper doubles teams [Gust and Gunderson at first, Mitambo and Kristen Kiemele (Fy., Eagan, Minn.) at second, and Johnson and Burnevik at third] won 8-2.

The Pipers are now 1-2, 0-0 MIAC.
