Pipers swept by Blazers in MIAC opener

The Hamline University women's tennis team dropped a 0-9 decision on the road at the College of St. Benedict on Sunday.

Despite strong play at several positions, the Pipers didn't manage a match win.

Liz Gunderson (Jr., New Prague, Minn.) took the first set easily in her match at second singles, but fell in a second set tiebreaker and the third set super-breaker, 6-1, 6-7 (4-7), 3-10.

At third singles, Sara Mitambo (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn.) held a 3-2 lead in each set before falling 3-6, 3-6.

The first doubles team of Gunderson and Kelly Gust (Jr., East Grand Forks, Minn.) dropped a tight 6-8 match, as well.

The Pipers are now 1-3, 0-1 MIAC. They host Southwest State University at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 24th. The match will be played at Lifetime Fitness at 98th Street in Bloomington.
