Pipers lose close match to Cobbers

Despite a sweep at the first three singles positions, the Pipers were edged out of their first conference win as they fell 5-4 at Concordia on Sunday.

A trio of juniors, Kelly Gust (East Grand Forks, Minn.), Liz Gunderson (New Prague, Minn.), and Sara Mitambo (Minneapolis, Minn.) swept the first three singles positions to lead the Pipers' four match wins.

Gust posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at first singles over Ashley Leister, while Gunderson's 6-0, 6-3 win at second singles came at the expense of Mollie Miller. Mitambo won at third singles, 6-4, 6-3, over Lyndsi Tufte.

Gust and Gunderson then posted their second win of the day, and the team's fourth point, at first doubles, winning 8-0 over Leister and Melanie Gail.

Hamline's record now stands at 4-10, 0-5.
