Gust, Gunderson blank opponents in Piper win against Bethany Lutheran

Junior co-captains Kelly Gust (East Grand Forks, Minn.) and Liz Gunderson (New Prague, Minn.) led their team to an 8-1 win over visiting Bethan Lutheran by not dropping a game on Saturday.

Gust and Gunderson teamed at first doubles for an 8-0 win over Heather Goossen and Elizabeth Kopacek. Gust then took 12 consecutive games for a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles over Goossen, and Gunderson did the same at second singles over Kopacek.

Kristen Kiemele (Fy., Eagan, Minn.) and Kristin Sczublewski (Pierz, Minn.) teamed at second doubles for the 8-4 win, while Sara Mitambo (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn.) and Kate Burnevik (So., Minneapolis, Minn.) won by the same score at third doubles.

Mitambo won easily at third singles, 6-1, 6-2, and Kiemele won at fourth singles, 6-2, 6-2. Sczublewski took the fourth singles match, 6-1, 6-1.

The Pipers are off until traveling to Orlando, Florida to play a series of matches over spring break.
