Pipers fall to Augustana

Kristen Kiemele Sara Mitambo
Despite two hard-fought matches from Kristen Kiemele (Fy., Eagan, Minn.) at fourth singles and at second doubles while paired with Sara Mitambo (So., Minneapolis, Minn.), the Hamline University women's tennis team couldn't pull of a victory in a 0-9 loss to Augustana in Orlando, Florida.

Kiemele pushed her opponents to the edge in their matches, as she and Mitambo forced extra play in their eight-game pro set, falling 7-9. Kiemele then took her opponent to a first set tie-breaker at fourth singles before falling, 6-7 (1-7) 0-6.

The first doubles team of Kelly Gust (Jr., East Grand Forks, Minn.) and Liz Gunderson (Jr., New Prague, Minn.) fell 3-8, while Ashley Johnson (Fy., Maplewood, Minn.) and Kate Burnevik (So., Minneapolis, Minn.) lost 4-8 at third doubles.

The Pipers remain in Florida for three more matches over spring break.
