Women's soccer cruises past Bethany Lutheran

Junior KC Heaney scored two goals in the first 7:07 as Hamline defeated Bethany Lutheran 10-1 Sunday night in Mankato, Minn.

Heaney, a junior from Tigard, Ore., gave Hamline (2-0) a 2-0 lead after the first 7:07 of the game.  She scored the eventual game-winner at 5:12 with an assist from first-year Kendra Watson. Heaney added another goal 1:55 later with help from Jo Smith.

Bethany Lutheran (0-2) cut the lead in half with a Molly Dancer goal at 18:04, but the Pipers rattled off six goal over the next 17:33.

Smith added a goal to go along with three assists on the evening. Sophomore Ann Donner would score both her goals while sophomore Anna McMahon added her first of two goals. First-years Sarah Berger and Kim Magill also added tallies.

Hamline held a 33-4 edge in shots and a 19-3 advantage in shots on goal in the first half. Hamline fired 40 shots on Bethany Lutheran goalkeeper Stephanie Brozo.

Hamline added two more goals in the second half by McMahon and first-year Corrie Zoltai.

Goalkeeper Andrea Eilertson made three saves to pick up the victory.

Hamline will next play at Simpson on Saturday.  Game time is slated for 5:00 p.m.
