Third period flurry gives women's hockey tie in opener

The Pipers scored two goals in the last 1:38 to come away with a 2-2 against UW-River Falls Saturday afternoon in River Falls, Wis.

Trailing 2-0, the Pipers (0-0-1) pulled the goalie and immediately scored on a power-play goal by first-year Melanie Leveille at 18:22 of the third period. She was assisted by first-year Sophie Davidson.

The Pipers tallied the equalizer at the 19:32 mark of the third period on an Emily Dusold goal with an assist to Brianna Miller.

UW-River Falls (0-0-2) held a 53-28 advantage in shots on goal in the contest, but sophomore goaltender Crystal Testolin made 51 saves for the Pipers. Amber Lindner stopped 26 shots for the Falcons.

The Falcon grabbed the lead with single goals in the first and second periods. Jenna Scanlon scored at 17:57 of the first period. Kelly Snedeker added a second period goal to make it 2-0 at the second intermission.

The Pipers will face Lake Forest in their home opener on Sunday. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
