Junior forward Sara Mickelson netted three goals and added an assist as the Hamline women's hockey team defeated Finlandia 8-3 for the series sweep Sunday afternoon at Drake Arena.

It was a game of firsts for the Pipers (4-4-2), who recorded their first two-game sweep of an opponent in team history. Their three-game winning streak is a Hamline first as well.

The Pipers also scored eight times in a game to set a Hamline single game record. Hamline scored seven goals in back-to-back games against Chatham on Nov. 18-19, 2000.

Mickelson started the scoring at 3:28 of the first period with a power-play goal. She would add a second power-play goal in the second period and an even strength goal in the third. It was the second hat trick for the Pipers this season and seventh in team history.

Finlandia (3-9-2) stormed back to take the lead in the first period. Sara Sleik scored at 5:55 to knot the game at 1-1. She would later assist Amy Danielson on a power-play goal at 8:10 to give the Lions the lead.

However, the Pipers scored five straight goals to take a 6-2 advantage and put the game away. First-year Sophie Davidson scored two power-play goals and added two assists. Sophomore Brianna Miller netted two goals and two assists.

Sophomore Kate Raasch and first-year Amanda Finstad each added two assists for the Pipers.

Hamline was 5-for-7 on the power-play in the contest while the Lions were 1-for-5.

The Pipers will be back in action on Jan. 6 when they travel to Chatham (Pa.). The puck will drop at 7:00 p.m.
