Women's hockey wins slugfest with Finlandia![]()
![]() Hamline (3-4-2) earned their second straight win in a game featuring 29 penalties, 15 by Finlandia (3-8-2). The Pipers trailed 4-3 heading into the final period before sophomore Brianna Miller scored off a rebound on a 5-on-3 power play. The goal at 6:17 of the third period knotted the score at 4-4. Two and a half minutes later, first-year Sophie Davidson netted her second goal of the game to give the Pipers the lead. She fired a wrister from the left face-off dot through traffic and past Lion goaltender Annika Danielson. The Lions grabbed a 4-2 lead in the second period after a short-handed goal by Sara Sleik and power-play goal by Danielle Syrowski, but the Pipers answered with an Emily Dusold breakaway goal at 18:34 to make the score 4-3 at the second intermission. The two teams skated to a 2-2 tie after the first period. Davidson scored her first goal of the game on the power-play at 5:53 to give Hamline a 1-0 lead. First-year Melanie Leveille added an unassisted goal of the Pipers. Finlandia received goals from Brenda Peterson and Emily Conrad. Backup goaltender Crystal Testolin made 12 saves in the third period to earn the victory. Starter Andria Pinkerton made 17 saves in the first two period. Finlandia netminder Danielson stopped 24 shots in a losing effort. The two teams will play again Sunday afternoon at Drake Arena. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. |
