Second period outburst gives women's hockey victory

The Pipers scored five times in the second period as Hamline won their sixth straight game with a 5-0 win over St. Catherine Friday night at Ridder Arena.

After a scoreless first period, Hamline (7-4-2, 3-3-1 in the MIAC) rattled off five straight in a span of 8:31.

Junior forward Mindy Lein netted a pair of goals in the contest, including a short-handed game-winner at 3:26 of the second period. She later added a power-play goal.

Hamline outshot the Wildcats (0-12-1, 0-6-1) 16-11 in the decisive period and  34-23 for the contest.

Junior Sara Mickelson, and sophomores Brianna Miller and Kate Raasch also tallied goals for the Pipers, who extended their school record for wins in a season and consecutive wins.

Hamline goaltender Crystal Testolin stopped all 23 shots she faced in the contest for the Pipers' second shutout of the season.

Wildcat goaltender Jessi McGehee made 29 saves in a losing effort.

The Pipers will close out the two-game series Saturday afternoon at Drake Arena. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
