Women's hockey ties Blazers, 6-6

Sara Mickelson and Sophie Davidson each added a goal and two assists in Hamline's 6-6 tie against St. Benedict Saturday afternoon in St. Cloud, Minn.

The Pipers (1-1-2, 1-0-1 in the MIAC) led by scores of 4-0 and 5-1, but could not turn back the Blazers (0-5-1, 0-1-1).

After taking a 1-0 lead after the first period, Hamline scored three times in a span of 6:05 in the second. Junior Marie Gross and Davidson added unassisted goals at 3:10 and 7:58 of the period. Mickelson later added a goal at 9:15.

After a Blazer goal cut the lead to 4-1, Shannon Griswold netted her first goal of the season at 15:11 of the second period to make it 5-1.

The Blazers would add a couple goals before the end of the period to make it a two-goal Hamline lead. Fifteen seconds into the final period, Erin Baldwin made the score 5-4. Piper first-year Melanie Leveille pushed the lead back to a two-goal advantage before Ashley Davenport and Andrea Selby netted goals to tie the game.

Selby and Baldwin each scored twice for the Blazers.

Hamline goaltender Crystal Testolin made 26 saves in the contest while Sarah Zweber stopped 22 shots for St. Benedict.

The Pipers will play at Gustavus on Dec. 1. The puck will drop at 7:00 p.m.
